edit/layers palette difference

I just tried to do a perspective effect on a brick wall and it was only able to be done if I used the edit -> fill selection.
I tried using the layers palette "create new fill or adjustment layer" selection but the perspective wouldn't work until the edit - fill was used.
Aren't these two things the same thing? They both gave me a wall but only one would let me use perspective...

Hey Dave. Can you explain the perspective effect or link us to a tut?

Basically the edit->fill allows me to move the wall like I've shown but the palette tool that can give the same wall (above the clock part of the task bar and shown with a "F" in a circle) won't allow a reshape of the wall

Hey Dave,

When you use the Layer Style ("F" in a circle) and a Pattern Overlay, right click the layer in the layers panel and select Rasterize Layer. You will now be able to use the perspective option of the Free Transform function to re-shape the wall.
