Being a newbie here, first thing I did was try searching on this topic, but -- no offense to the forum hosts intended -- vBulletin has about the sorriest search routines of any forum software I've ever seen. So, I'm tossing it out here.

DRI is something I just found out about. One of the things I don't like about HDR is it can too often look way to artificial and even surreal. I just want to bring out the detail in the shadows a bit more usually. And from what I understand, that's what DRI is all about, so I'd like to learn more about it. I've done some google searches but haven't come up with much. I did come across a link to this forum though -- but the message had no replies. Still, I found the name of the forum interesting, so I joined. There are other things -- plenty of others -- about Photoshop that I can stand to learn.

So anyway, can anyone here point me toward -- or maybe just explain -- what all's involved in doing DRI photography? And I also have a related question: is DRI possible with slides or negatives? I tried doing an HDR with a slide once. I have a digital slide duplicator so I used a DSLR and a flash. I went from way underexposing the slide to way overexposing it by moving the camera/slide duplicator combo closer and farther away from the flash. Well, the results were disappointing. A lot more information was revealed, but everything had a washed out look. Maybe if I would have used the curves function on it or similar, I could have knocked down some of the washed out look, but I've never tried this.

Okay, well looking forward to hearing back from somebody.

UM, not sure we have a tutorial for DRI, but you know that the search engine picks any thing with "DRI" if that how your searching for it.

I googled in and came up with this: Digital Blending

Actually vBulletin will tell you that DRI contains too few letters, amongst a bunch of other possibilities that don't apply. And if you try "Dynamic Range Increase" it will tell you that there are too many characters. Like I said, the vBulletin search function is totally lame.

Thanks for that google link. Dunno how I managed to miss that one. The Digital Landscape is, for the most part, a very useful site to know about. What's more, their explanation on DRI is clear, and with PS it appears that it will be a very simple process. Woot!
