Duplicating History States

I've just run into another new thing in PS. If you Option (Alt) Click on any previous history state in the history palette (not the latest one) it is copied. I can't imagine what this is good for. Perhaps because I use linear history rather than non-linear history? Does anyone actually use that opportunity in creative ways?
 
I suppose they were listening to KingCrimson at the time of programming:

???

Why not? I haven't got the slightest idea...

Welles maybe something to do with history brush,some little painting quirk...
