Illustrator Drawing Rune for a Game

Hello everyone,

I have found a rune that can be seen in first picture, but I want to draw and design some of the parts (since it's quality is very low). I will use this redesigned image in a game, so I decided to use adobe illustrator (when player clicked on a character, this rune will show up around him on the terrain.) I am very new to illustrator so can you please tell me how to draw these kind of runes, which tools must be used etc? A tutorial can be helpful, too.

P.S. It will look something like the second picture in game.

Sorry, I wrote the sequence in reverse order, I want to design second one. And it will look like first one in game, on terrain.
