Hey there! I went to try how well I can keep up with those professional magazine guys who photoshop the models to look even better. I'm obviously not a model but I tried.

I was really curious if I could do it and I think it went pretty decent. What do you guys think?

well, maybe not like the magazines,

but I you didnt do a bad job

there is just a strangle slightly light line in the middle.
the rest of the distortion are a bit covered up by the sideways lighting

Okay thanks :) That "nope" was rather discouraging.
This is the most up-to date version :)

I showed it to my friends and they thought it was real until I showed them the real pic :)

Hair on arms , shadows need hard edges / contrast with deep blacks, less texture on skin overall...softer

I suspect cell phone and no light so no res to work from.

hahah yea a phone isn't something good to start with. :D Bad textures and light.

I guess I'll just have to practice more stuff with photoshop. I'm currently trying to make a youtube background as well.
Basically, I'm just amazed by what you can do with this program. Everywhere around the forums here I can simply stare and admire how good some of you people are.

I'm just trying to learn how to use photoshop in all ways and it seems limitless as of now.
Well I this was a failed attempt then ^^

Haha well do you have any advice I could use to make it better?
I don't think it's THAT bad since nobody who saw the picture doubted it for one second. It's only being noticed here, obviously in a photoshop forum.

The original picture is above in case someone would like to try.

Is it even possible to edit such a bad source?

True. Well it's something to start off I think. Especially since I'm new to photoshop.

Now to ask again, is it even possible to make a decent picture with such a bad source to begin with?

It's possible, but you'll need to have a good knowledge in how light and shadow work in imagery. It's something that's more like painting and will come in time so don't expect to be a master straight away. If you want to learn more I would suggest doing some tutorials where the lighting is changed (studio shoot of a model to look like it's outside for example). If you've already fooled the people that need to be fooled by this image, why does it need improving? :)

Okay well I'm fairly new to photoshop so I won't be able to make that happen.

And it's really not about fooling the people. It's about creating a photorealistic image instead of that halfy stuff I made^^
I just want to practice to do the most different things with photoshop.

I'm just amazed by this program really.. And I want to see how far I can reach out.

If you want a photo-realistic image, it will be faster and most likely less effort if you workout your abs instead. This piece of software takes lots of both and the limit to what you can achieve with it, is only your dedication.

Why not both? :D I'm already working on both things. I'm just really eager to learn how to photoshop things.

It's not about me having realistic abs. It's about the techniques I learn whilst doing it.

I've lately been removing my friends out of their pictures so it looks like they weren't there for laughs and practice :)
Trying out the most different things is the best way to actually learn in my opinion.

Why don't you take a turn in the Garage thread or enter one of the challenges - next one is due out real soon.
You could also think about how you ask for help or even ask about certain techniques via tuts available instead of putting up in my opinion rubbish images to start with.

I guess I could try :) Thanks for the tip.
And I already agreed with the image being rubbish.

I will definitely have a look at the garage thread now.
