I have picture at fairly good resolution at 150dpi- 90x60 cm.
I need to cut this up in precisely 3 strips of 30x 60 cm.

if i choose the crop tool and enter these measurements in, i can be precise but I cant select any option but to crop the whole image ...
the rectangle marquee tool has no size control....

Here's one way........

Use your guide lines to divide the image.

Set your VIEW to SNAP.
Then use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select a section and move it to it's own layer (Cmd/Cntrl + J)

Sorry, forgot to mention.......... you will need your rulers (Cmd/Cnrl + R) to place the gudelines. If you have not set up the ruler, go to your preferences.

If you right click the ruler.......you can set the measurement...

You could also...
Use VIEW > NEW GUIDE, Vertical, with a value of 33.33% (1/3 the width)
Use VIEW > NEW GUIDE, Vertical, with a value of 66.66% (2/3 the width)

Select the 'Slice' tool and then if you have the option in your version of PS use the 'Slices From Guides' button...

You didn't say what you wanted to do with after splitting the image but if you wanted to save each piece as its own seperate file then use 'Save For Web', select all the slices and save.

Regards.

Hiya thanx everyone. I found another way myself too. The rectangular marquee tool also does it. You have to select it then choose dropdown option fixed ratio or fixed size.
Never the less cheers guys.
