Diagonal Panels/Lines

In the middle of this image, there are a number of diagonal lines or panels. Some of the panels or lines are white and some have a higher/lower transparency. I have seen this type of design in other images as well. I believe there is an action called refraction that is similar to this effect. My goal is to learn how to implement this effect. Does anyone know what this effect is called so I could spend time Google-ing more on it… maybe even finding a tutorial video online. Any feedback is appreciated.

Here is the refraction effort but I can not find any other information on Google for this effect so I believe it is called something else.

Hello and welcome to PSG.

The first example you posted is an attainable goal provided you have Ps experience. I don't think many of the effects used have specific names that you can search for, but most are pretty easy to do. However, there are many techniques used and you may have to break it down and learn each separately.

As for the refraction example......

Please watch this video and pay close attention to the layers panel after the actions are started. Notice how many intricate layers and groups are used to create the effects. There's way more to this effect than could ever be explained here in the forum!
(Also note the angle brushes used at the end!)

Me..........I would just buy this action for $5.00 and study the results to learn how the effects are created.

As for searching for effects, here's what I would do. Start a Google Image search on Photoshop effects. Then go through until you see something that is similar to what your wanting to create. When you find something close, visit the page and go through the tutorial if they have one.

You will be surprised at how fast you can learn how to create different type of effects. When you reach the bottom of the image search and you still haven't found what your looking for, start over and change your search parameters.

Thank you for the feedback. I did end up purchasing the PhotoShop action to help me finish an item I am working on for my son. I do have a number of years of PhotoShop experience but it’s a hobby where I complete compositions of my 2 boys. In the interest of wanting to continue to grow my skills, you mention there are a number of techniques involved in the 1st image and they are pretty easy. Would you mind sharing the name of a few of those techniques so I can continue learning more?

My compositions at this point are still pretty basic. I am proud of what I have accomplished considering it’s a hobby but I have a lot of interest in this space and want to learn more. Attached are examples of what I have completed.

Sorry, just in case you missed it.......

Since a lot of the effects that can be applied are not named, that's why I explained the process in post #4.

I will go over any of the effects in your first example if you can point out a specific one your interested in.
