It was a freehand sketch that I basically "traced" in Illustrator.

All the shading and hilights are vector shapes. 100% Illustrator. The eyes were difficult, and required the pathfinder intersect function and a lot of experimentation. Everything was drawn with the pen tool.

Practice! Practice! Practice!

I use Ps a lot more than Ai nowadays, for my cartoons, but sometimes it's so nice to go back to Illustrator, and just have pure vector lines, and no painting or brush strokes.
