Desat colorcast CS3

Hi, new guy here with at problem that is making me nuts.
When I desat an image in PS CS3 it leaves me with a green color cast. To eliminate it I have to convert to grayscale. Any suggestions how I can correct this. Probably simple but has me stumped.
