Dell U2410 Monitor HOLY CRAP!!

I just wanted to make a statement that I thought needed to be shared.

First of all, I am VERY new to Photoshop (I have been using it for years for making very simple web content that takes almost no skill, mostly for text) and I am just stating my own opinion, take it as you like, but I want to share it.

A couple months ago I went to Verizion and upgraded my phone using my bi-annual upgrade and upgraded to the Nokia Lumia 928 Windows Phone. I HATED it from the start, I will not go into the specific details, but going from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to the Windows phone, well lets just say I hated it a lot. I could have taken it back to Verizon but I only paid the $30 upgrade fee (the phone itself was free) and in order to take it back there would have been a $35 restocking fee.

Instead of returning it I put it on Craigslist and stated that I wanted to trade it, preferably for some type of computer hardware that I can use.

3 days later I got contacted by a doctor who wanted to get his niece a phone and had 2 of these Dell U2410 monitors sitting at his house that had not been used for over a year, and before that they were only used for 2 months, and then his wife decided she wanted a Mac computer instead with the 30" screen that came with it. He offered to trade me one of the monitors for the phone and, of course, I could not make the trade fast enough!

I have 2 monitors and a 40" TV now connected to my computer.

1. Dell U2410 24" (1920/1200)
2. HP 21.5" (1920x1080)
3. Sharp Aquos 40" LCD TV (1920x1080)

Now, why am I telling you this. First, I like to tell a good story when I have one to tell :rocker:. Second, I can not believe how much better things look in Photoshop on the Dell monitor! I took some really large high resolution photographs and loaded them up in Photoshop and then dragged the program to each screen and made it full screen. The difference is staggering!

The colors and natural look on the Dell is outstanding. In the settings for the monitor one of the Preset Modes is "Adobe RGB". I am not fluent with all of that stuff yet, but I am guessing it was built into the monitor to specifically go with Adobe products and video and image editing.

Morale of the story, if you can get one you should (I know not everyone will have the chance to get one for $30). I wish there was a way I could show you all the difference in quality, if someone knows a way please let me know and I gladly will (I don't think taking pictures with my point and shoot cameras will do the trick).

Thanks for reading!!

Sam

That is a cool story bro. Down the track when you get more serious about Photoshop you will want to calibrate your monitors to make them (yes it's hard to believe) even more awesome. With calibrated monitors your printer will be on the same page as the monitors and print images like you see on your screen. Good onya for getting such a good deal :)

I will certainly calibrate when/if I need to, Dell says though that this monitor is already pre calibrated. Should I not need to calibrate it since it comes that way from the factory? This monitor was specifically designed and built for photo and video editing with Adobe products.

I may be wrong but it wasn't designed with PS in mind. They just took the PS setting and included it into the monitor setting.

It may not be enough to rely on the default setting calibrations. You may need other applications to better enhance monitor color display.

I recommend an "arachnid" .... http://spyder.datacolor.com/en/ .... would you believe it will help calibrate your iPhone , too?

Here's a review.... http://www.slrlounge.com/spyder-4-elite-hardware-review-calibrate-your-monitor-iphone-ipad

I'm dying to get it as well but not till I get a much better machine.

I dont have a very good machine really, well at least my CPU needs replaced in a bad way (AMD 6400+). Using Photoshop is not an issue but it takes about 3-5 minutes to open it cold and some things take a long time (upscaling and downscaling especially).

And I dont have an iPhone or iPad or anything from Apple because I pretty much hate them and wont use their crap, EVER. :)

I don't care what other people think, I am entitled to my opinion, and I hates them, hates them badly......:bustagut:

Lmao I would love to know why you hate apple so much? Without using $ as a reason?

Not defending apple btw I could careless but curious.

I don't like the way they build and market their systems. Same goes for mobile products, I know all companies are about the bottom line "How much money can we snake out of those stupid consumers" but Apple takes it to a whole new level.

And they still think that they have the best of the best and no one can touch them and think that it gives them the right to do what they want when they want.

Google/Android is going to bury them and I am going to enjoy every bit of it (not to mention that even Microsoft is now working had to stay in the loop more since Google is catching them all) :D :P

To each his own I can respect that, but IMO Apple is pretty much top dawg..... Facts are facts unless you want to misstate them then it's a free for all.

I know that when it comes to graphics design and video editing, the Apple products do a much better job. For me, I am a gamer more then anything and a huge tech guy, the standard PC is much better for what I do. Graphics and photo editing for me is not high on the list like it is for most of you guys.

And I can build a system that will out perform just about any Apple for about 1/3 less or more, and to me that makes a world of difference.
