Cutting out objects and placing on a transparent background

i am wanting to learn how to cut a object out of a picture and place it on a transparent background. Anyone got any advice how to do this. I have photoshop elements 5.0.

Wow, I don't believe we didn't get back to you on this.and Duplicate it

Open your image
Duplicate it and work on the duplicate.

You need to know how to use one of the selection tools.
Lasso
Pen
Quick Select
Magic Wand
Etc.

You need to select the background you want to move with the selection tool.
Once it's selected hit the delete key to remove the background.

That's the most basic way to answer your question.
