Hi all,

I need to cut a large area out of a JPEG image. The area I want to remove is in the centre of the image. I therefore want the top and bottom edges to be closer together after the cut. What's the fastest way to accomplish this?

As you have done it there, only now you select inverse make a copy of that area with a feather setting of say 10 then pull one down or up to the other.

blend.jpg Obviously the bigger the feather size the better the blend.

Hi lfbb, as usual there's always another way.

This is only one way and it may not be the best. (I'm assuming that you DO NOT have the original .PSD file)

1. Open image in Ps. Make a copy of the original (Cmd + J).
2. Use whatever method works best for you and remove the gradated BG. I used the the Magic Eraser tool. Don't worry about remnant BG around the confetti.

3. Use your Rectangular Marquis Tool to isolate the confetti. Duplicate the confetti to it's own layer (cmd + J).
4. Use your Rectangular Marquis Tool to isolate the Yellow hills. Duplicate the Yellow hills to it's own layer (cmd + J).
5. Make sure all other layers except the two we just made are deactivated. Highlight the Confetti layer and use the Move Tool move the confetti down to where you like it.
6. Create a new layer below the confetti layer and the Yellow hills layer. Choose your Gradient Tool and create a gradient by sampling from the original images gradient. Hold the shift key and create a gradient on the new layer. You can move with the Move Tool if needed.
7. Use your Crop Tool to crop the image.

End result......

Or.....................

1. Isolate the Yellow hills using the Magic Wand tool, hit cmd + J to copy the hills to it's own layer.
2. Use the move tool to move the hills upward to where you like them.

3. Crop the new image.

There is no doubt that this is the fastest method.

Good luck Barra! I like to offer some options on this technique. The trick is maintaining the gradation.
If you have any problems, just ask.
