If you have a stroke circle, you will have 4 anchor points. Top, bottom, left and right...

Highlight the bottom anchor point direct (A) selection tool and press backspace.

Here's your cirlce stroke..

Highlight your circle then go to Object >> Expand. This will make your stroke into a shape.

Then Highlight the rectangle and circle with the selection tool (V) and go to pathfinder and select Minus Front.
