how to i get the curved text effect like the round middle building

then with the text tool, click on the path, the text will follow the curve of the path

every time I try that all I get is either just text or a outline box

hold your text cursor over the line, you should see the text cursor change like this:

yeah i get that symbol but as soon as I start typing the arc disappears and it types regularly but the new shape stays in the layeer palette.

Here's what I got:

your letters are way too big for that small path, try again with letter size 10 or something

size 10 and then size 12 and both the same result. Straight through the arc with no bend

Make sure the initial path is active I think. Highlight it. Then it will make a new path for the text to follow. That may not be right, but I think so. However, it may be only the size as suggested above. Certainly that would make a difference.
