CS6 PS extended crashes on closing windows Mac OS 10.6.8

I get frequent crashes using CS6 with Mac OS 10.6.8. This started after the new Java update for this OS. (Does PS6 use any Java?)

It occurs when I have multiple images open (20-30) and on closing a window only. On a Mac this often indicates a corrupt preference file. I found a PS Error log in the CS6 pref folder

THe following error repeats with each crash:

2012:10:22 20:40:34 : /Volumes/workarea/PS_13_Mac_Daily_Retail/20120808.r.519/photoshop/main/photoshop/xcode/../sources/UImageReferences.cpp : 276 : REQUIRE failed

I also have a system crash lof if necessary.

How do I stop the crashing?
