cs6 extended 3D render time

That's too long. Is it a complex render or something fairly simple?

Can you give us some specifics on your system?

Actually that can be normal my experience with 3d in Photoshop is minimal due to this and adobe have now started using Cinema 4d as the 3d element for after effects now lets hope they bring it to photoshop. However it really does depend on your settings if you are coming from a 3d software background and your trying to set your ps renders up to be similar to those in dedicated programs it will just freeze your computer or take hours to render. All I can say is reduce your lighting accurace maybe put the render settings onto low but where it really takes it toll is on shadows and mapping them. reduce shadow quality. God Its been so long since I tried doing photoshop 3d work I dont know what the render options are anymore.

I noticed the same with 3D effects in CS6. If I let it go, rendering takes awhile.

I just upgraded to 8GB total RAM (I believe RAM memory is responsible for this function?), and it's still kinda slow.

Graphics card cpu and memory will all be pushed but mainly graphics card and cpu you will want a nice intel quad core or 6 core for best performance when rendering 3d/ video Looking at buying a new computer myself and with the generation of cpus just coming out making it hard which 1 to settle on.
