CS3: Automatically resize overlay images to fit a base image

Hi there,

here's my problem:
I have several images (see attachment for an example, overlay.jpg) that I need to place onto a base image (base.jpg). The overlay images basically are sections of the base image, but unfortunately, they're not to scale and even slightly distorted. Manually transforming width and height of each overlay image does work, but it's a quite tedious task... I have dozens of overlay to images to place on dozens of base images. Isn't there some easier and faster way of doing this?
thanks!

if the size and exact fit differers from one to the next then I believe a one at a time is your only alternative

but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong ;)

First off, make sure that the images are the same resolution (PPI) before you begin. Secondly, if you use the place command go to preferences and checkmark Resize Image During Place.
