Hi all, I am working on a project at the moment, which entails cropping irregular shapes and bringing all the shapes together to form one finished image. I have added an example of the images that I am using. I have managed to lasso an element from this sheet, but don't know how to take that element and put it on a nice new white background/sheet then take other elements from this page and other pages that I have, then create a new image from all the elements.....does that make any sense!? Thanks in advance. IMG_0007.jpg

To do that...

1. Convert the image to grayscale.

2. In the channels pallete, CTRL + click grayscale channel icon. This will select the white pixels of the image. Do not deselect. Hide background layer.

3. Create new layer.

4. CTRL+SHIFT+I to inverse the selection... Fill selection with black on new layer. Deselect.

5. Convert image to RGB. Select Don't Merge.

6. Unhide Background layer and delete.

7. SAVE as png. DO NOT save as jpg or it will flatten the image with a white background.

Now you have your image on a layer with an empty background.... If you want a darker image, duplicate the image layer, and lower the opacity as desired and merge the two layers.

Hope this helps...

Er...ok, part one ....I can't find any grescale channel icon. Let me explain where I am up to. Basically I have the image as you see it in my opening thread, I have lassoed an element and am now looking at the element with a flashing dotted line around it......actually make that a sort of crawling dotted line.

thats a pretty cool image, all you have to do is open the other images in photoshop> drag and drop them, they will be on a new layer

Every time I lasso the next element and drag it over it comes out white on white with the crawling dotted line again.....incredibly frustrating, I've been at this all day...I know when I eventually get it it will save me so much time on future projects!

After you lasso an object hit Ctrl+c to copy. Go to the new document hit Ctrl+v to paste. Each time you do this the object will be on a new layer. Use the move tool to adjust them as you like.

How proficient are you with PS?

Which image did you select? Cruxifiction?

Once you've selected the image you need, press CTRL+Shift+Inverse to select the other images. Hit delete to delete those you don't need.

Next you have to crop the image. Select Rectangular Marquee tool. Create a rectangular selection around the image.

In MENU>IMAGE>CROP.

Continue with Steps outlined above....

You would have something like this....

Hi DV8FX, iDAD and Hawkeye

Not been rude and still working on this, so thanks for all your help so far, will get back to you all again soon

I'm sure no one thinks you rude, good luck with it.

Cropping an image to an irregular shape is just as easy as making a square or rectangular crop. The method does not use Photoshop's Crop Tool, which can make only rectangular crops, but instead produces a crop based on a user-defined selection. Use the Lasso Tool to outline the irregular shape that you wish to crop. To do this, select the Lasso Tool from the Tool Palette, then hold down the left mouse button while you create the shape. Release the mouse button to complete the shape. Open the Image menu and select the "Crop" option. This will crop the image to the selection you made.
