Hi,

I have drawn a picture in photoshop. I wanted to get it as a transparent gif. i have deleted the background and tried to save as gif (from save for web option) but I am getting a white aura kind of thing around my image, which I figured it was Matte. I tried to put matte to none, then many of my picture's lines were not visible. Can anyone give me the steps to create a good quality transparent gif? For some reason I am not able to attach the PSD file along with this post.

Hi.

The problem is you want impossible thing from gif. It doesn't deal with semi-transparency. Other formats, like PNG do it much better. Consider using them.

But if you really have to stick with GIF, then the simplest way to get rid of semi-tranparent areas is to create a copy of your layer then merge it down. Do it a number of times. During the process semi-tranparent areas would increase their opacity. And they won't disappear with matte removal.

As for "good quality transparent gif" you may try options in Transparency Dither dropdown list in the Save for web dialog. They imitate transparency applying various dither patterns.

Thanks for the reply,

Somebody told me to use alpha transparency, but was not sure how to do it. Anyway i think the only option could be the one you just said, ie to merge the layers and make it opaque.
