Creating Elementals

Can anyone recommend a good tutorial or set of tutorials that explains how to turn people into elementals? For example, I want to learn how to create a person who appears to be made of fire. I don't mean a person who looks like they're ON fire; I mean a person who looks like they're MADE OF fire or smoke or water or whatever. Where can I find a really good tutorial for that kind of thing?

Thanks, everyone.

Give me some person and structure, I will try to show you. I am sure there are tutorials, but I do not know which exactly.

Maybe start with something along these lines. http://abduzeedo.com/torch-man-pixelmator (in pixelmator, but it's pretty much identical to Photoshop)

You could just use a stock image of a male and then remove him when you have created the fire over his body (use him as a template)

Hopefully that link would give you a good place to start.

Good luck

That's why I said remove the stock image of the man and just use it as a basis to get the human form.

i'll have to find some photos to work with. I'll need a figure and some fire, right? I'll post um later. Thank you.

Dom:
That just looks like a guy with his arm on fire, but your suggestion of using him as a template and then removing him might work. Thank you.

Here're a couple of images I think could be combined into the kind of thing I'm looking for.

The results I'm looking for would look something like this.

I saw a better example of what I'm looking for somewhere else. Somebody won a Photoshop contest by doing a great fire elemental or man on fire that looked like what I want, but zi didn't see a tutorial for it and I can't find it now to show you.

Here're a couple more examples similar to a what I'm going for. The one that uses smoke looks good except that it doesn't look like the woman is MADE OF smoke; it looks like she's standing in a cloud of smoke. The edges of her body are defined by her skin; not the smoke.

Here's an example. But the tutorials might be better. I just did this quickly for you. These are not exactly beginner level by the way.

Why do so many people think they can walk into PS with NO experience and just make marvelous manipulations? These are very advanced images and they aren't done in 8 steps and 20 minutes, so be aware what you are getting into.

You flames do not even begin to match the examples you want, but it is not that hard to add extra flames. It is the flame following the outlines of the man that is the hardest. Anyway, is this close to what you want even though I didn't extend the fire throughout? This first is with fire layers set to blend mode vivid light. The second stay normal.

Abdul's tutorials are excellent. I'd give those a try. For what you want, especially the first. Flames just need to explode further out.

Hello? Anyone? Just replying to this thread to put it back near the top of the forum in the hopes that someone can help me out.

Hi GreyArea, I can see you're frustrated by the lack of information that fits exactly what you want -- though you don't know exactly what that is . Someone may come along who has done this or has ideas that will work for you, and I hope so.

I will tell you this, manipulations of the kind you are talking about can get pretty complex. Not everyone is willing to share the secrets of the work they did to get there. Someone who hasn't done this can guess and make suggestions, but unless they are so inclined, may not take the hours it entails (and when I say hours, who knows how many?) to figure it out and make instructions. And when I say "figure it out," there are so many ways to do the same step in PS, that there is no way of knowing the exact method.

There are a lot of great tutorials at this site: http://www.psdeluxe.com/articles/tutorials-showcase/best-photoshop-tutorials/
You might be able to combine techniques to get the effect you want. If you have been using Photoshop awhile and understand a bit more than the basics, you should be able to create a reasonable facsimile of what you want. If you don't have those skills, get them, then it'll be easier to play.
