Hiyer ALL,
I'm completely new to this forum. Not very new to Photoshop (CS5) though so I will share my knowledge here as well!

Most of my knowledge comes from a seascape photography. Now I am looking for a way to do a portrait of a person however, I want to convert subjects face to look like a crash test dummy mask. No eyes, some form of nose, no lips or ears. Though all need to look natural as if his skin is covering those elements.

Been researching and trying with different type of layers but I can't figure out how to do it.

Any assistance, point, suggestions will be greatly appreciated so THANK YOU!

First thing that comes to mind for me is to use a mask on a real dummy and pull in the face features of the person.
That seems to opposite of what you're saying though.

No eyes, some form of nose, no lips or ears. Though all need to look natural as if his skin is covering those elements.
...I can't picture what you're trying to do.

Thanks Steve :)
I thought about it as well but I wasn't sure how to make its colour blend with subjects (model) skin.

Sorry, I can't yet post any links to show you photos but I'll try to explain what I mean:

No eyes, no lips, a form of nose - I want models eyes, lips, nose to look as if they are covered by her skin. Her face to look as if the skin layer covers her face. To make that layer pretty much flush to the skin. Like a maskarade party mask covering her face but make form her skin to look natural.
I hope you can see what I'm trying to do :)

That's tricky because the lines of the crash test dummy's 'cheched' look would have to match the curves of the mode's face. If you were at a visual effects studio they woudl model it in 3D and apply a texture. But if you don't know 3D then here's what I'd do:

find an image of a crash test dummy that you want to emulate. Make sure it's high res. Then, shoot your model from the same angle & lighting as the photo of the crash test dummy. In PS, line up the photo of the crash test dummy over the model's image. Us the Edit>transform features to help with this. I would also bring the layer of the dummy's image to 50% so that you can see how they're lining up.

To reveal the model underneath, apply a layer mask to the dummy layer. Now paint on the layer mask in black over the ares of the model you want to reveal. Return the crash test dummy layer to 100% opacity.

Does this make sense? Hope it helps!!

btw, if you already took an a photo of the model and it's hard to match to the image of the crash test dummy, try using adjustment layers>curvers to fake lighting. It'd take a lot of manual labor.

If you post up mages of what you are trying to do, a member may have an urge to help or to toss out some ideas.......just a suggestion

Thanks guys for your feedback. Very much appreciated :)
Sorry for late reply.

-Steve, thanks! After your comments I was trying to find an mage of a crash test dummy face and upload it. Then I kind of got accross Vanishing Point (mates suggestion) but it took me a while to get how it works in relation to what I was trying to achieve.

-PetitPhotoshopper, thanks a lot mate! I think you grabbed what I'm trying to do. Seems as if I will have to start learning 3D! However, I'm just trying now what you have suggested to see the result. I'm sure I will have to do it couple of times to get it exactly right. Not scared of manual labour but the time spent on it could be perhaps better used to learn 3D a bit :))) Thanks.
At some stage I actually copied models forehead and past the result on her eyes. Then played with spot healing brush and spend a lot of time trying to burn part of what I copied to achieve shades so it does look like a eye socked :)

-iDad, good suggestion, thanks! I was looking for images that "potentially" look like what I'm trying to achieve but I couldn't find any. Steve pointed me out already to try to explain it a bit better. Next time I'll try to draw it, scan and post :))
