I have a jpeg that is 1800 x 1200 pixels. I'm trying to lay down a type layer as I've done a billion times before but for some reason, when I try to do so, instead of seeing blinking cursor that is approximately the size of the type I would be using, all I see is a tiny gray square. When I type, nothing happens.

Any ideas? I think I'm having a senior moment.

Additional info. I just viewed the image at 1200% and at that size I do see a very tiny little blinking cursor and when I type, I get tiny, tiny little letters that would be invisible at the 100% size.

And the color isn't the same as the background and is a common text font right?
I mean not a symbol or wingdings font or anything like that.

What am I looking at with this image?

OK, I don't know how this will help but here you go.

I typed "Hello" in white. It's so tiny that all you can see is a few pixels of white, just to the left of the white arrow and only is you look at it at 1600%.

The resolution of your document is set to 1 which effectively made your font size 1 pt.
LOL, I bet that's not what you wanted is it.

Go to Image|Image Size, uncheck resample image and change the rez to 72 or whatever you want, then adjust the font size.
