Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file

I have worked in Photoshop for many years creating illustrations. After upgrading to Photoshop CS5 (a part of the Production Premium) I started getting an error message when opening some files. After working on some artwork, I put it away. Then the next day when I opened the file, some of the files refused to open with the error message, "Could not complete your request (to open the file) because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered"

This is very frustrating because I'm on deadline with a children's book and I'm have to redo artwork.

I spent several hours with two different tech people at Adobe today, and they couldn't help me.

Does anyone have any ideas? I love to figure what to do differently to stop this from happeing.

Thanks!!! Eddie

I have a similar problem, but mine occurs only when I am saving the file to my company's server. I get this message, "Could not save “file_name...” because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered. I can save everything just fine locally on my hard drive, but not on the server. That's sad even Adobe couldn't help you. Hopefully, they'll have a fix soon.

Hi youngeddie

This error occurs when the file was corrupted or disturbed while it was being saved generally due to Hard drive bad or corrupted sectors, usually this corrupted file is unrecoverable, there's some tools out there to deal whit this issue, but they don't seen to full resolve the problem.

If this happens too often, then it indicates you've got some bad blocks on your hard drive or your HD is getting too saturated whit data, and is recommended to run a HD diagnostics and maintenance.

also do as full defrag on your hard drive it will isolate the bad sectors and will try and repair them or block them from use but I would recomend taking an image of your drive and just replacing your hard drive and copy new image onto that it only goes downhill with hard drives once they start failing on big projects save them to an external hard drive/ pen drive as well just to be safe
