This was tricky to do. I experimented with a few false starts, then I hit on this method. I made a selection as shown below and copied that to a new layer. Then I used the Pucker tool within the Liquify filter to shrink the gate at the far end while keeping the perimeter of my selection intact to give the illusion that the ropes are continuous. But it's difficult controlling the pucker tool, which is why mine looks like an LSD trip.
