Hi all,

I'm new here and i was wondering whether you could help me. I've got an image (subject and background) in which i've extended the background using fill (this image will serve as a background for a webpage).

I've got a second image which i'd like to have the background to match the first one. I've magic-tooled the background and filled with the color from the original image using the eye-dropper tool (and i've checked that the letter/number combination for the specific color matches), but the end result comes out differently. What's even more frustrating is that if I open a new document and fill the same color into that, it shows up correctly. What's going on?

Please help.. i have a deadline to finish a site and i was hoping photoshop would solve a lot of problems not create some!

best,

M

Thanks so much. OK well when it comes to layers i'm not sure what i'm doing at all. In the original image, I just corrected the background behind the subject to a uniform one using the magic tool and then filled. all in the same layer. When i try to do that with the new image it messes up. Will try to post later. Am i supposed to cut the subject out and paste into a new layer with a transparent background and then fill? i was hoping I could just fill without extracting the subject.. any thoughts?

Again without seeing it it's difficult to know what the problem is or how to fix it.
Cutting and pasting isn't usually the way to go, but post when you can and we'll look at it.

Working to a deadline with photoshop, from what I can gather not knowing what you are doing, sounds like a bad idea. Layers are the bread and butter of any photoshop sandwich. I would suggest going on youtube, and watching as many tutorials as possible, this may give you the overnight photoshop knowledge you need.

Although i don't see it happening, layers are for beginners and trying to make a website (that is on a deadline) background without knowledge of what a layer is in photoshop is like driving off a cliff.. It's not going to be pretty..

post your psd file that will get many clues as to what is wrong

1) What color space are you working in? Some, like CMYK aren't going to be the best way to work.
2) Unless your upper image is a solid color, you will see variances along the edges where the upper meets the lower image. Maybe a solid border of the background color can be run around the upper image?

Like everyone else has said...need to see the problem before we can diagnose more accurately.
