Hi guys

I've been asked to update the digger in the attached picture.

I've got a photo of the new digger and I have removed the background.

I have made the digger into a greyscale image and placed it on a yellow background.

I'm just not sure what to do with the grey digger to make it look like the old version where it blends into the yellow rather than sitting on top of it?

Any suggestions please?

Cheers

Would you post the old version please? If what you want to do is blur the edges, you might try ctl/cmd clicking the digger to get the selection, going to select>modify>feather, then adding a layer mask. That could be one way. You could also duplicate the digger layer, select the lower layer and blur the digger with a guassian blur.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry for the confusion, the attached is the old version.

The new version is currently just a greyscale digger on a yellow background.
But in the old version, the digger is yellow and black if that makes sense?

So your just wanting to colorize the new, greyscale, digger to match the old one? I say apply a hue & saturation layer to the new diggers layer, check colorize. Adjust until it matches.

Unfortunately, I'm still not sure I understand exactly what you have and what you want. I think you are starting with either attachment #1 or #2, and want to get something that looks like attachment #3, right?

Is this what your trying to do? If so, I used an alpha (channel) mask to to extract the digger. Then used a Hue/Adj layer to Desaturate the digger. Put back in background.

The methods suggested by both Sam and HPsN will work just fine. The method I happened to use to produce my 3rd attachment was simply to put a color adjustment layer above the image layer, set the blending mode to "color".

Set the color of the adjustment layer by using the eyedropper tool to sample the color of the remainder of the poster / banner.

I assumed he didn't have any layers....duhhh?:banghead:

Thanks for the help everyone. Tried the various methods above and ended up using Tom's. Here is the finished image, just need to add the original logos back in.
Cheers :)

Looks good! Glad to have helped.

PS - BTW, thanks for posting the result. Often we never see what the final product looks like.
