Colors sucked in by TV

Hello Photoshop Gurus,

I'm a real newbie in using Photoshop, and I have this project I'd like to do but have no idea how to. So basically the idea is simple : there is a photo of a guy sitting on a sofa watching TV. I have to transform the image so that the guy becomes black-and-white, and his colors are kind of "sucked in" by the TV via some kind of ray or mist. How would I do this?

You could use motion blur or the liquify filter but not seeing picture leave it a real big guessing game for everyone here.
