Colorization of a Civil War General

This is a photo of a Civil War general from the public domain of the Library of Congress. I have colorized it and embellished it with a new background etc. Comments welcome. This is a screen shot of the two,

It looks like an oil painting. I like that, but I'm not sure if that was your intention.

I think the color of the jacket needs more different colors as light and shadow change the tonalities of color. In fact it needs more color perio as right now it just looks like a black and white photo. If you meant this to be photographic, then the colors on the face need to blend better. The BG is too solid and actually kind of fights with the soft colors of the photograph. But it's good and much better than the last ones. Keep up the good work. Keep posting and keep smiling as we slap you around!

The grey jacket and darker pants are authentic to the uniform, so I didn't monkey with them. I will heed your advice though Aunty. I am workin hard at this stuff and hope to be able to offer a service along with my engraving. Thanks for the encouragement. I have been slapped harder

OK DiNozo (no idea how to spell that and not looking up NCIS to do so, lol).

I still think there should be some rounding out of the color because it just looks like a flat black and white, not colourized. IMHO. Smooch this time.

As it is an Old pic restoration, be gentle with the Skin tone mate.. it is too Pink for the guy (no makeup in those times I believe.. Lolz) .. and yes, as Clare said, the dress needs to be colored even though you want grey, black or white .. Choose a sof light background too...
