Color Range-Sampled Colors is not working.

Since upgrading to CS6:

When trying to make a selection with Color Range-Sampled Colors, it just doesn't select anything, even with the fuzziness maxed out. If I'm trying to select black, nothing whatsoever shows up in the preview box in the dialogue box. If it's a lighter color, it appears to barley be working (in the dialogue box preview) with the fuzziness all the way up. But then it gives me the warning that no pixels were more than 50% selected.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on.

Thanks,

Barry

check if in the color range menu:
select stands on: smapled colors
on the right, you have the eye drop icon, not the eye drop - icon
unchecked localized color clusters
check invert (on the right)
now what is happening, is the preview is in greyscale, and it changes the selected color in greyscale.
if your greyscale has the wrong contrast, it looks like you selected nothing in the preview box.
if the images has a transparant background, you can put a brightly colored background behind the image.
make sure you didnt select a transparant background area with the eye drop tool
at the botom you can change the preview mode so it shows selection in the actual pictue, mess with that to see your selection better.
