Color profile issue? Photoshop displays duller colors then webreader and imageviewers

I am having some problems with Photoshop (CS6) displaying colors much duller and out of value then when I see the exact same image in for example the webreader Chrome and imageviewers like Irfanview. This obviously affects the paintings I make and I have no idea how the colors in it will turn out and the end result willbe screwed up. I have the same problem in the default Windows Image Viewer, but not when I am using the program Irfanview to open up images.

A friend who is much more technical told me that it might be is some sort of color profile issue.

I would greatly appreciate any form of help on this matter, thank you in advance.

First of all, do you have the color settings in Photoshop set up to match your output. Try this and see if it solves your issue. In PS6, go to Edit/ Color Settings. Change your settings in the drop down to North America Web/Internet. This automatically changes the other settings to co-ordinate with this. If you decide to print your output, you will need to go back and change to North American Prepress. Also, if your output is to the web, use web only colors when picking colors in PS. I JUST started to experience this issue. I was doing flyers for a company and when I went to save to PDF to print, they were very faded and washed out. Now, everything I save is faded and washed out. I have tried EVERYTHING I could find on the internet and can not find a solution.

I am about to reinstall and start over!!!
