Color Problem

hey guys i m new to photoshop world, working with 3ds max but totally new to photoshop. i have some problem with foreground and background color i cannot change it to any color except gray.

How do i change the color ?

Go to image > mode and check you have not got it set to greyscale and make sure it is RGB

You have a number, approximately below the menu bar Edit, you can increase number there.
