Circles on pen tool path: why?

I am trying to use the pen tool in Photoshop CC. When I draw a path, it has small circles along it. There must be something in the settings, but I don't know what it might be. How can I draw a path without the circles?

Could you be a bit more specific i.e. what pen tool are you using pen tool, freeform pen tool, curvature pen tool. Also, are they little circles or little squares (which are anchor points).
It would help if you could add a screenshot of what your seeing as well.
Hard to know how to direct you e.g. are you experienced with Photoshop or just starting or just starting using the pen tool.
Just going for clarification to have forum members better direct their suggestions
