Over in the TUTORIALS section, stoker has a couple tuts that refer to "chOps". At the risk of truely identifying the uneducated lout I am, what is / are \:] chOps?
 
ChOps = Channel Operations

Started by Kai back in the day. Back then, ChOps was the only way to do a lot of things because PS was still young.

Image > Apply Image
Image > Calculations

Layer with various blending modes can be considered ChOps.
As can using shortcut keys to do various booleans on alpha/selections.

They don't build them like they used too and all I can say is Thank God.

Thanks stoker, I read enough of Kai's stuff to want to call Alvie Ray Smith and ask him why he invented the alpha channel. I thought PS Cs is hard, WOW.
