hello,

everytime i try and save my psd file as a jpeg my 'black copy' channel turns its visible status to not visible which reveals some of my marquee tool work. it looks bad, unlike when the channel is on. any ideas how to fix this and save as a jpeg successfully?

thanks!

hello $1r_M4x1mu$,

in the channels box i made a copy of the 'black channel' as suggested by a tutorial on coloring comics on youtube. i currently can't send the link with this message as i too much a newbie here.

i did this before and it worked fine but this time when i try and save my work as a jpeg the visibility of that 'black copy' channel switches itself to not visible, which in turn reveals some unwanted marquee tool work. this specifically happens during the 'preview' box upon saving.

hope this explanation helps.

well if you are working on CMYK color mode, you can't save as .jpg, an image whit any channel duplicated "cyan, magenta, yellow or black" the objetive of channels is create selections, layer masks based in pixel/color information
that's why automatically it turns off when saving.

try using the black channel copy as layer mask or selection and then you can work on it, and finally when saving it you won't have any problems

hope this helps

thanks again! gonna try that. will post back an update after.

i am too much of a newbie to know why this is but then why is there a 'black' in the channels palette?
I edited my post as you must be working in CMYK mode. In RGB mode there is no black channel, RGB (red-green-blue) is what is used most of the time. CMYK mode is used mostly when you intend to send your work to a printer.

actually i can't seem to get that to work either. such a noob!! :p i tried to apply a layer mask and do some editing but i just end up erasing the whole work. uh also i should mention that all the layers have been flattened. my fault on that, since i did this before i didn't anticipate having this problem. any other suggestions other than starting over?

If you flattened the image then there is only one layer. Using a layer mask and painting with black if there are no layers beneath is going cover up anything you paint over and appear to be erased. If you haven't closed and then reopened since you flattened, just open the history palette and go back to before you flattened it.

yeah it has since been closed and reopened after the initial flattening. i suppose i have to re-color my line art now?
by the way i am working on a comic illustration and its only the second time i have colored in inked line art.

thanks hawkeye!
