Change Shirt Color to Black

Can somebody tell me how to change a shirt or jacket color from red to black and still maintain the texture?
I've tried using Adjustments>Hue & Saturation and am able to turn the shirt green and other colors, but not black. I lose all texture.

in photoshop CS go to...
image>
adjustments>
replace color...
pinpoint the skirt and adjust the "fuzzyness" until only it shows up
then click on the color picker on the bottom right, change to black
done

shouldnt mess with the texture

depending on the color you can also play around with>Image>Adjustments>Photo Filter
