I hope I can explain my question clearly:

When in CS6 I want to be able to move my image where ever I want it, by default it's centered on the workspace. Because my palettes are on the right and I use quit a bit of them it's better when I can move the image moire to the left.

This must be really easy, right???

I would press "f" and pan the image across by holding spacebar and dragging with the mouse.

That's an awesome tip there besmirched, I've never really tried that buts a great idea, gotta remember that one!

As besmirched stated, hitting the "f" key toggle you between screen modes which you can also find under VIEW > SCREEN MODES.

You can also place your cursor over the image tab and drag it down and it will be in it's own window which you can re-size using the command + "-" or "+" keys. When you want it back to normal, just drag the image window upwards until the blue outline appears and release.

Since we are adding tips...

You can move the layer without selecting the move tool by just holding cmd/ctrl. You can make further fine adjustments by pressing the arrow keys on your keyboard instead of dragging it.
Holding cmd/ctrl+alt and dragging will copy a layer.
Holding alt+shift will let you zoom in using your mouse at regular intervals.
