I am getting a message saying: "The document "nameofdocument.psd" could not be opened. Photoshop cannot open files in the "Adobe Photoshop file" format.

I get this message:

1. When trying to open a .psd file from the hard drive
2. As an attachment
3. A linked InDesign file.

I CAN open the files when IN Photoshop from the file menu.

I'm running an iMac OS 10.7.5, 3ghz, 4gb
Photoshop CS5

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have two versions of Photoshop CS5 on your computer? I'm not a techie so someone can answer better I would think, but if you have 2 and click on the PS icon doc, it may be trying to open in what it considers the default PS but for some reason that version isn't functioning. Just a thought.

Highlight the file and do command i, for information tell me what it says Or right-click the file and get file info Meaning that you may need to change permissions from whatever it's set to open with

I don't have 2 versions of Photoshop and I've already gone done the info trick and made Photoshop the default for all .jpg and .psd files. How can Photoshop not be able to open Photoshop files?

How old are the files Where they created with the newer version and are you trying to open with an older version maybe?
