Can't even get a graphic to print centered on paper

Because you're doing something wrong. :)

Seriously though, without all the details of how you're setting up the print and what the print is, it's nearly impossible to say for sure.

My first guess would be that your margins are uneven (the default for most printers is to give a larger bottom margin). I know on epson printers you can click a toggle to "minimize margins", which gives you smaller and even margins all the way around the image. If it's being printed based on the printable area's center and not page center, then this would fix it.

Could actually be positioned wrong due to the image not being set up correctly in the document itself.

It could simply look off center visually but not be off center mathematically.

There could be extraneous image data you aren't seeing but that is being printed that is throwing it off.

Basically, without a little more info, I'm just guessing.

get a graphic to print centered on paper

Thank you for helping. I have a deskjet 9800 and I don't see any way to help center in the printer features. there is a place where it shows the two different sized top and bottom margins and you can change them, but to what? It is hard to believe I am the only person with this problem, It makes me think there must be a simple solution I just can't see. I would appreciate it if you have any ideas where I can get a fix. I have combed thru all the faq and usual help places.

Thanks, nick

I was just assuming you had already... but have you clicked "center" when you print? Most printers have a feature to do that.

Thanks again- yes there is a box to center- but apparantly PS and HP don't talk, cause it prints off-center (top and bottom).

Can you post the PSD somewhere? It might speed things up if I could just look at that and see what is going on there.

I'm not sure how you're building the PSD, but one thing you can do is set your document up so that it has transparent space around whatever you want centered and is the size of your print. So use the canvas size dialog to make the canvas the same size as the print, then just make sure that the object is centered in the document so you aren't relying on the printer to do the centering.
