Can't crop images

No matter what jpg, tif or gif image I open in PS CS3 I can't crop. They all show the layers locked. I even opened a photo that I just took--never been on the hard drive and it also shows locked layers. The last time PS was working correctly was 12 days ago. Restoring my XP system to 15 days ago did not fix the problem. Anyone have a solution?

Hey tlsnc, cheers for the message. So you have tried cropping even though the layer is locked and it still doesn't work. It also wont allow you to unlock either. There is another way to do a similar thing to cropping and that is is use the rectangular marquee tool, select the area and then Ctrl-C (copy) Ctrl-N (new) Ctrl-V (paste). When you bring an image into photoshop for the first time and it is the background layer it always comes locked, you should beable just to double click on it to unlock it though. Let me know how you get on

Cheers

Ali

solved can't crop images

Thanks for the try but I have solved the locked images issue. I had just come back to post what I did.

Since reinstalling software did not work I suspected something had happened to OS (XP PRO). I ran the SP3 update. All is well. Still don't know what happened but as long as it is fixed I don't really care.
