I have just purchased a Canon 5D III and shot some trial CR2 images.
I have a Windows version of Photoshop CS4 but it won't open the Raw Files.
Can anybody offer a solution please?
Neville

You need to install canons raw to DNG convertor

it will take your cameras raw files and convert them to a standard raw format that adobe reads and can edit

Thanks Hoogle, but where do I find it and how do I install it?
Alternatively, if I get PS6 will it resolve the problem?
Regards,
Neville.

There is no way that Adobe can predict and write code for every future file format camera companies are going to release.

However updating your camera raw will fix this

Thanks Hoogle for your help.
I'm not suggesting it's an Adobe issue I think Canon should have supporting software to enable the user to save files to be recognised by existing recognised aftermarket software (particularly Photoshop which is industry standard).
Are you suggesting updating Camera Raw in my Canon Software or Photoshop to rectify my problem with the extra process?
Regards,
Neville.

Adobe supports all new cameras as they come out in there newest version of Photoshop, in this case CS6.
It will also update ACR in CS5 for some limited period of time.

With older versions of ACR like in CS4 your out of luck.
It's always been like that.
Using Adobe's DNG converter or the software that came with you're camera are your only options if you don't want to upgrade.

You do not have to upgrade immediately just to get RAW files readable. You can just install newest Camera RAW from Adobe web, it will work even with older Photoshop versions. Of course PS6 is a good way to go too.
