Can you tell me how this image has been treated?

Hi,

My father in law has been sent this image (attached) and wants it printing on a large canvas. Problem is that the high res version has been lost. I am going to re-take the photo for him but I want to recreate the same affect that the original has.

Thanks

Matt

Looks like one of the artistic filters in Photoshop with some kind of darkness or multiply overlay only keeping the black outlines, but I'm just guessing. It look's like one in the Filter>Artistic part to me though!

Hi Moonirules, I think that this particular image is a painting in the Realism style. The details are too painterly. You could reproduce this effect somewhat as sammy suggested. There are a lot of ways to go about accentuating edges in Photoshop and making things look more cartoonlike. Topaz filters might be helpful as well. As sammy said copying the layer, trying different filters or adjustment to threshold or posterize and playing with blending effects or opacities might get you on your way. Part of learning in Photoshop has to do with being given just such a challenge and working out a way to reproduce the effect.

I imagine someone who does this kind of thing a lot will come around with more ideas for you. Ig I have time later, I'll try some of the techniques I've used for similar results before.

you could get this look using the "Render/Lighting Effects" filter with the "Texture Channel" option enabled then some blending with the original image
