I tried searching on Youtube for Glass Masking but the results seem to suck big time.

I want to get an image like this.

But what I got was this hahaha

What did I do wrong?

This is very easy.

Start with a phone.

Make a selection of the area that will best represent the screen protector. I used the Pen Tool.

On a new layer, fill that selection with black.
Then use the Move Tool to move it upwards.

Now here come the easy and fun part!
Add a layer style to the screen protector layer.
Under blending options > Advanced Blending.....set the fill to 0.
Tick/check the Bevel and Emboss
Then it's a matter of making adjustments........here's what I used..........read all and very carefully so you can see what I did. Your settings may be different.

Here are my results..........

Next, on a new layer, make a selection of the screen protector by hitting Cmd/Cntrl + clicking the layers thumbnail.

Use your Brush Tool to add a cool highlight.
Done!

Can I check on something. Why is it that sometimes when I use the pen tool to create a path and try to fill it with black, the selection Fill is greyed out

This is what I got and it is working well for me. Not sure why I cannot fill path all the time. Must be missing a step.

I got a question. Why when I use the brush, I cannot create a highlight?

Secondly, the sides (right and left) are actually slightly curved. I understand that I must do dodging and burning to create the contours or is there an easier method to show this out?

Just as an example, if you take a look at this Google Pixel 2 XL tempered glass, it is slightly curved on the left and right edges and even on the top and bottom. is there anyway to represent that?

To represent roundess, volume, etc its always a matter of lights and shadows.
Fast example using your image.

Just use the Brush Tool with a soft round brush. Hold the shift key to keep you lines straight.
