Can anyone get rid of the grey for me?

So I needed to use photoshop while I'm at a friends house, and all he has is Gimp. Gimp doesn't have a "magic eraser" feature so I was hoping one of you guys could get rid of the grey for me. The person I'm doing this design for also asked that there not be a background color.

you know if you had the layered.xcf file i could have made it REAL easy.

You know it is real easy especially since gimp can open Photoshop files, and make them.
The only issue is that it doesn't keep layer modes.
