This is one of my favorite subjects. Take a trip to the Asylum FAQWiki to get a feel for it:
PS Stupid Mistakes

Colour Picker dialoge thing. You know, a big square of colours on the left and a bunch of radio buttons on the right. Actually, some people aren't aware of the radio buttons and are left wondering why the colours in the big square are funky. Know what I mean?

Another good one is the Foreground/Background thing. When you select a colour from the canvas and it goes into the background instead of the foreground. I know this can be fixed from the Colour palette, but I think I recently heard that there is a shortcut. I think something like ctrl + d or shift + d or something.

Have you encountered a stupid mistake lately?
What you got?
Hit me!

My biggest goof up...

...is that i tend to forget i have an active selection going, but it's hidden. So when i try to move the layer contents or apply a filter to the entire layer... i get messed up by the selection that's hidden.

DOH! [doh]

:D

Suddenly, stuff in the menus are greyed out! And I can't even save the file! Something's wrong with my Photoshop!

Duh. I had the Type tool selected. [confused]

See my sig :B

Nice one Stroker! :righton:

Making a screenshot of the layers palette and wondering later on why nothing happens when you click on it [confused] :D

But my #1 is CTRL+H... I banged my head a few times because of that! :bustagut:

One time I sent an Email to our recepionist, it was just a picture of a Windows dialoge box that said "click here to close this Window"

I bet she spent 10 minutes clicking on the stupid thing before I went and told her :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut:

You're evil, Rick!
I knew there was a reason I liked you. [shhh];)

I did something similar by adjusting my co-worker's text color to white on their word processing program. They must have spent 10 minutes fiddling with the keyboard thinking it was broken. :D

Favorite stupid PS trick? Going to mask something and painting the layer instead of the mask. [doh]

Moth, I don't know how many times I've pulled that one! Thank God for the History palette!

Oh, Stroker I collect them! :bustagut: and this one is a winner:
going to do something and PS is not respoding.. the blanding modes are highlight in the Layers palette.

Yep thats my one to Mark :D ,I find also I cant move anything at all and theres a tiny litttle a piece of active selection happening.

Another of mine is forgetting I have inversed a selection and having a hissy because my paint brush wont work...[stuned]

And all of the above as well :D

1/ trying to stitch two scans of something too big to scan in one time, setting different blend mode and then trying to nudge with arrow keys, only to get a quick trip through the blend modes...

2/ being on a non-English keyboard, I can only use the brush size shortcuts when I change to English. But then most of the keys are changed so that to get Ctrl+Z I have to press Ctrl+W, Ctrl+A means Ctrl+Q and vice-versa. etcetcetc...

3/ When on the mac (G4, OS9etc, where I can use that A3 scanner), double clicking the workspace to open a new doc. Then when back home on the pc, throwing the shortcut to my CDBurner in the dustbin.

etcetcetc...

The worst ever was when a friend of mine needed a HDD urgently, and it was weekend. As always. Shops were closed. So I took my second HDD (I had a perfect and complete backup of it. of course), installed it in his pc, fdisk-ed, formatted, installed her Win98 on it, had a laugh...and, back home, I realised I had taken my first hdd, the active one with all my apps, mail, favourites, even several bought codes and serials, etc. I got so angry that I started laughing as, finally, it's only ones and zeros, andI had no one to blame but my desire to make a good impression on her... [innocent]

The funniest one for me is that, when someone calls me on the phone, I very often start with something like " Buckingham Palace, commander Heseltine speaking. What can I do for you?" or some other silly joke.

Rick and Moth: yours are memorized!!!

:bustagut: Nice stuff guys! This is getting good now. :righton:

Both Lily's and Erik's #1 are WinXP bugs i believe. I have the same darn issue with the blend mode menu Lily. And man that has GOT to be my alltime A-#1 pet peeve in PS. [confused]

Thanks for the info Mark.

This can happen too : sometimes PS crashes when you click twice on the screen and if you didn`t save your file ... :\ it is gone. [upset]

Erik You are addictive to PS. All signs are there. :bustagut:

( I am using Ctrl+Alt+Z instead of backspace :D )

Yeah. And when you drive too fast and see that policar behind you, how often haven't you wished for a Ctrl+Z huh???

As for a bug: never saw it like that. It's a shortcut. When the blend modes are active, iy's easy to scroll through them using the arrow keys.
Press V (move tool) and either click on the workspace to activate it, or press the Tab button twice. Then you can nudge.

Maybe this is a way around the problem, but I'm used to that. As I'm used avoiding cops. [innocent]

:bustagut: Erik! I love your HDD story! No doubt, the young lady was most impressed! :D

;) I relate to all these "goofs" (particularly after a glass or two of wine), but mostly those hidden ants and the blending mode thing.... that one really bugs me, having to click off! [doh]

[innocent] And I always forget to check the state of my pen tool...of course, only after having drawn a very time-consuming and complicated shape...

:\ or duh... wondering why my eraser isn't working and discovering that it's still set to 10% opacity!

:D

lol........Boy can i relate to mistakes with the layers palette, selection and brush thingys. :(

Psst, Wendy, quick. Send me an email and tell me what all those things are. Only thing I have used Photoshop these last 6/7 months is auto contrast.

Lee, young Winston is asking for his cigar! ;)

Lots of goofs, most recent was putting the year 2202 into a poster..... five times. [saywhat] It wasn't even a small font.

Thankfully it was spotted just before the printer hit the all systems go button.

Al.

:bustagut: I hope that's not a picture of your new grandchild, Lee! [:I :P

Speaking of printing mistakes... this one came from a girlfriend of mine, working for the Separate (Catholic) School Board. It was her job to put out a booklet, listing all the schools in the area. Every single "Public" in the title of Public School was "Pubic"... :bustagut: Nothing that 'spell-check' could have even caught.

Imagine her embarassment [saywhat] !

Funny one Wendy :righton:

We have just installed a new baptismal in our church. We have one in the front and one in the rear - so the babies can be baptized in either end.
