I have just bought a new computer Core 2 Duo 3,16Ghz/4Gb ram and installed Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3.
When I start Outlook 2007, Firefox, some other apps and AI + PS and tries to use for example stroke filter on a layer, not all the buttons and other gfx is shown in the pane which should be caused by the fact that there is no memory to load it. If I press enter to execute the stroke action PS crashes. Before I turned the dedicated memory to be used for PS from 700Mb to 1,5Gb it crashed directly when I entered the layer styles pane.
I have set the scratch disk to D: which has over 300Gb space left. I think it's strange that I cannot use Outlook + AI + PS without getting these problems!! The system should only be slow and the HD should work, but PS should not crash or refuse to show windows/panes because shortage of ram, or am I wrong?
I had an Athlon 64/1Gb before and bought the new computer to get rid of the lag problems with that one so Im pretty sad now when my new computer isnt working so well.
