This is nicely done. Did you use the Pen tool to trace the shape?

I used the pen tool to draw the basic shape (centerlines, not outlines), then used the direct selection tool to stroke with the brush. Cleaned up with the eraser tool, then opened the whole thing in Illustrator and traced to convert to a smooth vector.

Don't give up, I'm working on the text ... more work than you might think. I'll be taking some liberties with it for cohesiveness.
