Brush isn't working?

Hi,

I'm trying to fuse to photos by using a brush to reveal the darker photo in the bottom layer.

I've found two great pages, but I have the same issues. [Links on the attached jpg file]


Both show me how to reveal the bottom layer using a brush.

However, with the layer mask selected, and the brush, no brush line is ever created when I brush the image.

Nothing on the image ever changes.
[In the undo list, I can see many, many brush items, so the system knows I'm painting.]


What am I doing wrong?

Paint with black to conceal, and white to reveal. In your screenshot the mask is totally white, therefore it reveals everything. If you want to reverse the mask, select it and hit ctrl+i.

And the little box you show is from double clicking on the mask thumb...click once to choose it, and then switch your color to black...TIP...if you are working on a mask, you will toggle between black and white....use " X " on the keyboard to switch, I use a tablet and my pen switch is set for this to save time switching.

Thanks hawkeye: ctrl+i fixed it. Although it works to the opposite as I expect it would. Anyway, I'm going forward!
