Hello,

I am new to the forum, and fairly new to PS. Made a an account to ask some tips/help.
I am trying to make a mobster themed game, consisting out of puzzles.
Every puzzle has the same background, wich i am making at the moment.

The idea was a bricked wall, a bit cracked and with bullet holes. I got the brick wall, but i cant seem to get it to look more "real" also the cracks in the wall don't look realistic. For the bullet holes i bought some extra pencil sets. But i cant get the desired effect. Any help or tips?

Hi Cherry, use the "insert image" icon in the Quick Reply window to post an example please.

Cherry, do you know how to add a brush set to Photoshop?

Ok Cherry, sorry it took so long. Got interrupted.

My brush idea did not look very good so I tried something different.

How does this look?

All of the holes sizes can be changed and rotated. I can also make you some with different shapes if you like it.

The bullet holes certainly look alot better, what brush did you use? Thanks alot. Any tips to make the wall more realistic?

Sam, for the brushes, are you using (in addition to what looks to be concentric circles) fx like bevel or inner shadow? I would do that with the cracks. Use an inner shadow; play with other layer effects, color settings -sometimes interchanging dark for light or changing color. This will give dimensionality to make them look more realistic.

For the wall itself, try some other brick wall images with texture, odd color assortment of bricks for instance, or even a funky texture you like. Place them on a layer above and set it to soft light blend mode, maybe overlay or hard light and lower the opacity. This will give the bricks more variability.

I'm very sorry for leaving abruptly yesterday, I had a business related emergency that I had to attend to and I did not get back home until after 1:00 am! The crises carries on through today, so I will be out today as well.

Cherry, I did not have a chance to work on the wall. I actually like the wall, for a game anyway, and I will try and see what I can come up with later this afternoon. I will also work on the cracks.

As for the bullet holes, I did not use a brush as I mentioned in post #9. I tried several available brush sets, but was not at all happy with the results. A brick wall, when hit with a bullet makes a very different type of bullet strike than is depicted by most brush sets.

In making the holes, I did cater to the wall itself and they may have to be made differently if we change the wall. The holes are very simple and easy to make. You should try making some of your own as well.

You have two options. The holes are in a PSD file or a ABR brush file. Download either or both.

Open the PSD file into the wall document, duplicate, position, transform, rotate, group, and add any number of adjustment layers.

Or, Add the ABR file to your brushes folder and you can use the bullet holes as simple brushes with about the same configure-ability as the PSD.
