Hello guys and gals, new to the forum here. My photoshop skills are dismal really. I have some decals that im trying to change colors on but I am having a very difficult time and was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction. I watched some videos of ways to do this on youtube etc but have failed over and over. I've been using the color replacement tool but it leaves behind all this pink stuff on the screen?? Below are the stickers, I want to change the blue splatter to pink and the silver in the letters to blue. What would be the best way to go about this?? Thanks for any help!!

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply! I tried to put a photo up but it stated i needed 5 posts before i could attach the pic. I didn't want to be rude and post four random thoughts to get there (wasn't sure if that would be frowned upon?) Oh well here it goes...

Ok, heres example one, the downtube decal:

Everytime i use the color replacement tool it leaves a transparent pink tint on the white areas?? I was wondering what would be the best approach to changing out these colors? Thanks again for any help, it's greatly appreciated!

I just took a close look at your image and can see that the white area is not pure white. There are pinkish sections (among others). I am not sure why you are not able to see them before you work on the image but can after. Try zooming into the image and look closely.

Yes, of coarse i saw all of that, that outside edge is not part of the sticker though. Im not concerned about that, i dont want pink all over the rest of it because i dont want transparent pink printed on my stickers. Any guidence would be greatly appreciated!! I'm not really sure if the goodman above is helping me with the color swap, or just pointing out the obvious but thanks anyways. Lets talk more about the color swap please

To me that would be simple to mask each area you want to change and then just fill it with the color you want. Pen tool would work for the selection or even the quick selection tool. You could also mask it and then apply a hue/saturation adjustment layer.

Edit: If I were doing it, I think the hue/adjustment layer might be the cleanest and quickest.

Edit: I played with this a little more. If your just wanting to clean up your white areas pretty quick, just make your color changes with whatever method you choose (however, the color replacement brush probably isn't the best way) then save your image. Then re-open it in Camera Raw, assuming it is a jpg or tiff and push your white slider up. You can also adjust saturation etc there too.

Another trick you can do is with the image in Photoshop, open a Threshold layer, move the slider until you have nothing but black and white. Then select the layer with your image and use either the magic wand or quick selection tool to mask the colors you want to change. This will give you a much cleaner mask. Then either delete the threshold layer or click the eye. Now your areas can be painted on with your paint brush or filled with the paint bucket.
Maybe this is of help.

That sounds like more of the ticket i think, i have limited knowledge with the layers but i will give it a go! Thanks for taking the time to help me out!!

The pink discolouration is not limited to the outside edge but can be found throughout the white area. In addition, it was not my intention to point out the obvious since I was not sure that it was obvious. You mentioned that there was pink left in the white area, and I saw pink in this area when I opened the file on my PC. I have never used the "colour replacement tool' but I thought perhaps it was not REPLACING everything it found in the white area. I supposed that it might do this if it was set to replace white with some other colour but because it found non-white pixels in the white sections it was not processing these.

A way around this would be to work on the other areas first and change their colours (how you choose to do this is up to you), then select all of the coloured areas using the magic wand and invert the selection. Now fill the selected area (the white area in this case) and it will be filled cleanly with whatever colour you desire.

Anyway, just trying to help, if it appeared I was pointing out the obvious I apologize for not making my point more clearly.

The color replacement brush is OK for well defined colors. But when you first touch a color on your graphic with it, it is going to work on that color only. In the case of what we perceive to be pure white, 255,255,255, many times it is not. IMHO the actual variations in the colors is problematic with that tool. I would avoid it except in the very best of color definition.
