BMP with transparency?

i have this old game, shoot me if i've asked this before. but i've retextured a tank (it isn't ghost recon, it's Soldiers:Heroes of World War 2) and the BMP seems to use Transparency, but there is no way to make the BMP transparent anywhere, and if i save in 32bit colour, the whole thing is invisible (comical but there we go)

Would an alpha channel possibly solve this, does the BMP format support alpha channels?

I would love to help, but im confused by your question...do you have a screen shot to show us what you mean?

I think, but really only think, that BMP is a "stupid" format which records each pixel as checkboard with its value, so there is no space for channels. Yes, there is some header, but I do not think it can carry much information.

BTW did you try to Google it, there may be some authority responsible for bmp format development describing it.
